E   KNOW THAT

GROWTH LOOKS LIKE CHANGE:

HOWEVER,

WE BELIEVE THAT FAILURE TO GROW AT THIS TIME IN OUR HISTORY WOULD JEOPARDIZE OUR SUCCESS.

THEREFORE:

WE PLEDGE  that the changes we propose will not alter our purpose and will not adversely influence our style of ministry and our manner of service.

WE PLEDGE  to preserve and enhance our desert landscape.  The “sense” of Valyermo is closely associated with the beauty of our high desert location, which invites us to simplicity and poverty, to quiet and peace.   This will not change.

WE PLEDGE  to preserve our life of prayer.  Common prayer is at the heart of our Benedictine life and ministry.  This will not change.

WE PLEDGE  to preserve the sense of consolation and peace in our new chapel that so many have found in the old chapel.

WE PLEDGE  to continue the lives of authenticity and integrity to which our prayer “landscape” invites us.  Our particular incarnation of Benedictine life  directs us to a silent and humble presence in the world.  This will not change.

WE PLEDGE  to maintain our spirit of hospitality and gracious welcome for all who come here  This will not change.

WE PLEDGE  to welcome all who come here to pray and seek, to deepen their faith.  This is a precious gift for the community.  It is our privilege, style, and vocation to be hosts for the guests who come to us as Christ. This will not change.
